"Practise like you have never won, perform like you have never lost"

“Eruption of joy at the fall of an Indian wicket can only mean one thing ”- these were the words spoken by Harsha Bhogle as Tendulkar walked down the test stands to bat. But let’s backtrack a bit to when he started his career, people rarely commended him, as he was shadowed by his friend Vinod Kambli who in his first 13 test matches scored 2 double centuries and 2 centuries and had an average of 80+. But what happened after that? Did Tendulkar come across a magic bat? Or perhaps he had that one skill which Kambli did not, and it made Tendulkar who he is today. It’s a skill that each person must have and it can either make or break them– Attitude.

First of all, attitude defines the ultimate outcome. The truth that any one of the most successful people in the world will tell you is that their success would not have existed without an appropriate attitude. It does not matter in which sphere a person is involved in, it is their attitude that guarantees the winning line. Therefore, a fitting and desired attitude towards the work one performs is the key towards their success.

Success is sometimes achieved by talent. Talent is wonderful thing to have but it alone is not sufficient to move ahead in life because beyond a certain level, ability or talent becomes commonplace and thereby a redundant quality to possess, what one does with the talent is what matters and that’s where the attitude comes in and beyond a point it is the attitude which counts far more than talent. Talent breeds an ego and it never solves any problem beyond a point. Take any educational institute for example- each member is almost equally talented, but the bitter truth of life is that not everyone will be at the top of the ladder, some will be and some won’t be. So,what is the differentiating factor between them? ‘Attitude’
Life is ten percent what happens to you and ninety percent how you react to it. In other words, the only thing one truly has control over is their attitude towards the things that happen around them. Whether one is facing a financial difficulty or perhaps some personal struggles due to covid 19, it is how they decide to behave that determines who they are. As Captain Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of Caribbean film franchise says -“The problem is not the problem, the problem is your attitude about the problem.” If you choose to allow the smallest things to completely takeover and alter your attitude than you will spend the entirety of your life in misery. However, if you choose to react to your hardships with a positive attitude you will continue to grow and build upon your success.
Failure. I am sure that everyone at some point, must have taken a decision that backfired or maybe that contract which they weren’t able to get or it was just that they weren’t the best on the day it actually mattered. The question is, but how does a person bounce back? The answer is by having the right attitude. In the Australian army when they build the elite core team, they check the career record and if the person has never failed, they are out. They pick the people who have failed and bounced back and that is where the attitude comes through. The greatest failure is the failure to try.
Personally, I am of the opinion that if a person has the right mindset then he has the right attitude in life. I always believe that if I don’t work hard or stop improving myself then there is someone else in this world who is working twice as hard to take an opportunity that I would have gotten in the future and for me this statement has helped me stay focused in life. So friends ,life is what you make of it, choose to suffer from its blows or keep moving forward with strength and a resiliently optimistic attitude.
